My Family Room

Welcome to My Family Room – our official blog! You’ll find posts here by me, Karen Stoteraux, founder/owner of The Family Room, as well as occasional entries from our amazing Family Room educators.

We will share our own experiences, new research, observations, helpful tips and practical advice. This is where it gets real.

Meet Gia, Our Toddler & Me Educator

Gia is one of our best kept secrets here at The Family Room! When I met her I instantly liked her – I just knew (and was right) that she would fit right in. She is super knowledgeable, engaging, relatable and she truly cares. You can’t fake that.

Gia has been sharing her expertise and enthusiasm with parents at The Family Room for the past year and currently leads our popular and growing Toddler & Me program. Drawing on nearly 25 years of experience working with families with a specialty in child development (she is a child development professor!), Gia also has a warm and approachable manner that complements her deep base of knowledge. Plus she is lots of fun.

Gia loves seeing a parent or child learn something new, that “light bulb” moment when something clicks and you get a fresh perspective. Lucky for her and us, it happens on a regular basis as parents build a sense of belonging and community and get help navigating toddlerhood in the judgment free zone of her classes.

Fun fact: Gia was born at Cedars, and spent some of her childhood in Los Angeles, but moved around a lot, including time in Europe. Her mother is from England and her father from Switzerland.
